Russian Council for Community Development and Human Rights: Google is the main tool for censorship in the world

Head of the Russian Presidential Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights, Valery Fadeev, said that the American company Google is the main tool for censorship in the world and an alternative must be found.

Fadeev said in a session with foreign journalists and experts: “Digitization, social networks and search engines are a new form of censorship. We all use Google. Google is the main tool for censorship in the world. Do we have an alternative to it?”

According to him, the French once tried to contradict something in Google, but they did not succeed. The head of the Russian Presidential Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights added: “10 years have passed, and nothing has changed.”

Large technology companies are subject to increasing scrutiny regarding their data practices, in the wake of the Facebook platform being exposed to a series of privacy scandals, and the entry of European Union laws related to protecting user data. Since 2014, Google has allowed advertisers to track the effectiveness of online ads, a feature that... It is based on users' location records.

Documents previously revealed that Google was collecting users' personal data through strategies similar to those used by Facebook, which violate users' privacy, infiltrate their accounts, and sell them to companies, with the aim of improving its financial resources and increasing its revenues.

Google says the stored location records are used for targeted advertising, so ad buyers can target users within specific locations such as a mile radius around a specific landmark.
