Russian Center for Biometric Technologies: Artificial intelligence is unable to deceive the unified biometric system

AI will not be able to fool the standardized biometric system using produced photos or videos, as the system's algorithms can distinguish between a live person and a fake.
Vladislav Povolotsky, Director General of the Center for Biometric Technologies, said in an interview with the “Novosti” agency: “On June 1, 2023, the legal provisions came into force according to which biometric personal data are processed only within the unified biometric system. A citizen can revoke his consent to the publication of his data.” In the system by the system operator at the Center for Biometrics Technologies, he can also delete biometrics in his personal account on the “State Services” website, which lists all requests for publishing and processing private biometric data.

He added: "It will not be possible to deceive the unified biometric system using photos or videos from social networks or photos or videos generated by a neural network. The algorithms we use have long learned to distinguish between a live person and a fake and block suspicious transactions."

He pointed out that maximum protection will be provided by adopting a set of multiple biometric methods, and including additional protective factors, as well as continuing to develop “Liveness” technologies when, during the identification process, a person performs some operations that cannot be performed at any time. last. For example, it mentions the numbers that appear on the screen. He explained: “There are now a number of biometric services available that are only available when identity is confirmed by voice and facial image simultaneously. For high-risk services, additional security factors such as SMS messages and one-time codes can also be used. As a result Therefore, we obtain a completely reliable and certain sequence of operations performed.”

He also pointed out that in the future, the center will research biometrics by reading palm patterns. He said this method could be used for contactless payments.

  1. A new study revealed that climate change and rising temperatures are causing food prices to rise by 3.2% annually.
As climate change continues to worsen, price inflation will reduce the diversity of healthy food for people around the world, or simply become insufficient in nutrients.

The German study shows that global warming could lead to an increase in food price inflation by between 0.9 and 3.2% annually by 2035.

Africa will be the most affected, despite its small contribution to the causes of climate change.
