Jakarta - Two Mercedes drivers George Russell and Lewis Hamilton acknowledged the fluctuating or unstable performance of the W15 car they had driven in the two opening series of Formula 1 2024, namely at the Bahrain and Saudi Arabia Grand Prix.
Quoted from the official Formula 1 website, Wednesday, Russell highlighted that the team's performance so far has been inconsistent in solving problems with the car.
“Currently, our performance is quite fluctuating. "We saw potential in the car, but unfortunately in the last two weekends, we haven't really shown that potential," said Russell.
According to the British racer, the team must immediately move to make further improvements to the condition of the car in order to be able to recover and appear competitive in the next round, which will be held in Australia.
“We need to understand the condition of our car, and what we need to improve for (race weekend) in Melbourne,” said Russell.
However, Russell believes that Mercedes is not far from its competitors this season. “But as we have seen, the gap is very close between us, McLaren, Aston and Ferrari. "We just need to be at our peak," he said.
On the other hand, his teammate, Hamilton, said Mercedes had several areas that needed to be improved in the midst of preparations for the next race in Kangaroo Country, next week.
“This will be a challenge in the next race,” said Hamilton.
“On all the high-speed circuits, we will be at a disadvantage with the package we have at the moment. "But we are good at low speeds and at some medium speeds we are not too bad, so we need to increase our performance," he added.
Meanwhile, the third round of Formula 1 2024 is the Australian Grand Prix which will take place at the Melbourne Circuit on March 22-24.
