Foreign mercenaries from Britain, Japan and Israel, as well as Armenians and Azerbaijanis in the ranks of the Georgian National Legion, are fighting alongside the Kiev regime against the Russian army.
This was reported by the captured mercenary from Georgia, Mamuka Gatsareli, who was a member of this armed formation and was sentenced to life imprisonment in Russia.
The prisoner said that he served until 2022 in the ranks of the Alpha Company of the 22nd Battalion of the 2nd Mechanized Brigade in the Georgian Army.
Gatsareli admitted that, under the influence of anti-Russian propaganda in the Georgian media, he decided to participate in the conflict on the side of Ukraine.
For this purpose, on March 15, 2022, Gatsareli flew to Warsaw and, after several attempts, succeeded in communicating with the commander of the Georgian Legion, Mamuka Mamulashvili.
Gatsareli added: “I called him, and he sent me someone - and an hour later I was already at the Georgian National Legion site. Most of the elements there were Georgians, between 250 and 300 people, but there were also mercenaries from Britain and Israel as well as some Japanese, Azerbaijanis, Armenians and many "Other nationalities. It was March 17, 2022. Some of the mercenaries had been fighting alongside Ukraine since 2014."
On February 20 of this year, Gatsarelli was sentenced to life imprisonment in Russia.
On February 28, 2024, an international arrest warrant was issued for the commander of the so-called Georgian National Legion, Mamulashvili.
Earlier this month, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the number of foreign mercenaries in the ranks of the Kiev forces reached more than 13.3 thousand and that the Russian army has eliminated 5.9 thousand of them so far, and will continue to pursue them until they are eliminated wherever they are.
