Report: Harris urges Biden to speak out about the humanitarian plight in Gaza

The New York Times reported that US Vice President Kamala Harris is pressuring President Joe Biden and other senior administration figures to speak out about the humanitarian plight of the population in the Gaza Strip.

The report, citing four sources, said that Harris repeatedly told Biden and others in the White House that “ the administration must show more compassion for Palestinian civilians by speaking out about the rising death toll in Gaza and the plight of survivors.”

According to the report, Biden supported Harris' position, and also said that officials must also continue to condemn the Hamas attacks on October 7.

In a speech on Sunday, Harris accused Israel of not doing enough to alleviate the "humanitarian catastrophe" in Gaza.

She met with Defense Minister Benny Gantz in Washington on Monday. According to the newspaper, Harris' comments were intended to address complaints from Democrats who oppose American support for Israel in its war against Hamas and "to burnish the vice president's foreign policy credentials to make clear that she is an effective alternative to the president if necessary ."
