The Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman, discussed with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken ways for aid to enter Gaza “without obstacles,” while the World Health Organization said that Gazans are risking their lives in order to obtain food and water.
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman discussed with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken efforts to achieve calm in the Gaza Strip and accelerate the entry of humanitarian aid “without obstacles.”
A statement issued on Friday by the Foreign Ministry stated that the discussion came during a phone call that the Qatari minister received from his American counterpart on Thursday evening.
The phone call discusses the strategic relations between the two countries and developments in the situation in Gaza, including “efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and accelerate the entry of humanitarian aid without obstacles.”
On Thursday, the US State Department said in a statement that the two sides discussed by telephone efforts to reach an agreement to immediately release all hostages and establish a humanitarian truce in the Gaza Strip.
The call between the American and Qatari ministers coincides with telephone discussions held by US President Joe Biden with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, on Thursday evening, to discuss developments in the situation in the Gaza Strip and ways to reach a truce.
"They risk their lives"
In this context, the World Health Organization said on Friday that residents in the Gaza Strip are risking their lives in order to obtain food, water and other necessities, in light of the hunger and despair conditions have reached amid the continued Israeli attack.
Christian Lindmeier, the organization's spokesman, told reporters in Geneva: "The regime in Gaza is on the verge of collapse, and even more than that all lifelines in Gaza have been cut off in one way or another."
Lindmeier explained that this created a "tragic situation", as happened yesterday, Thursday, when more than 100 people were martyred while seeking humanitarian aid.
"People are so desperate for food and clean water, for any supplies, that they are risking their lives to get any food or any supplies to support their children and support themselves," Lindmeier added.
He continued: "Food supplies are deliberately stopped. Let's not forget that."
