Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova revealed that Washington had prepared a package of misleading information to be published on the eve and during the Russian presidential elections, in an attempt to influence the conduct of the elections.
She said: "The United States prepared a lot of different disinformation to spread on the eve and during the elections. From the point of view of its political content and fake information about candidates, political parties and personalities, they did a lot to literally scare people."
She indicated that Washington is using electronic hackers to influence the conduct of voting in the Russian presidential elections.
Earlier, the Ambassador of Special Tasks to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Gennady Askaldovich, announced that electronic voting in the Russian presidential elections is not available from abroad due to cybersecurity threats.
The presidential elections in Russia began yesterday and will continue until March 17.
Four candidates are competing: President Vladimir Putin, an independent candidate, the candidate of the Russian Liberal Democratic Party, Leonid Slutsky, the candidate of the Russian Communist Party, Nikolai Kharitonov, and the candidate of the New People's Party, Vladislav Davankov.
