Macron clarifies his statements regarding sending French soldiers to Ukraine

French President Emmanuel Macron told BFMTV television channel, commenting on his statements about the possibility of sending military personnel to Ukraine, that “not ruling something out does not mean doing it.”

Macron told reporters: "Not ruling out something does not mean doing it. You are standing in front of me now, and you are not eating lunch behind your table, but you are not ruling out that at some point you will sit down to have lunch behind your table, because you need to eat."

Macron also said during a meeting with opposition leaders yesterday that “ there are no limits ” and “no red lines” in France’s support for Ukraine.

Opposition leaders and the French president failed to agree on measures to support Kiev during a meeting on Thursday, and the leaders warned Macron against dragging Paris into the conflict in Ukraine.

At the end of last month, Macron said that during a meeting in Paris, during which about 20 Western countries discussed providing more support to Ukraine, the issue of the possibility of sending ground forces from Western countries to Ukraine was raised.

He added that  sending Western forces to Ukraine in the future should not be “ruled out  ,” noting that there is no consensus on this step currently.
