"Iris" the first smart robot teacher to start working in an Indian school

The first AI-powered robot teacher has started working in a school in South India.
The robot can answer multi-level questions on different topics, provide voice assistance and facilitate interactive learning.

The first school robot equipped with artificial intelligence technologies appeared in a school in the southern state of Kerala. Its developers named it "Iris".

The robot was given the features of a real teacher dressed in an Indian sari. The robotic teacher moves around the classroom using wheels, and when she meets students, she extends her hand to greet them. Iris started working at Trivandrum Higher Secondary School. It can answer different levels of questions on different topics, provide voice assistance and facilitate interactive learning.

The developers said: “With Iris, we intend to achieve a true revolution in education by harnessing the power of artificial intelligence to create real education. By adapting to the needs and preferences of each student, Iris works to make lessons attractive and effective.”

It is noteworthy that the robot (Iris) was developed within the framework of the Atal Tinkering Lab project, as an initiative presented by the Indian National Institute for Digital Transformation, which aims to stimulate school activity.

Experts said that it is still difficult to assess the future and dimensions of the use of automated teachers in the coming years, but the experience of attracting (Iris) certainly gives a picture of future education, where artificial intelligence will play an auxiliary role.
