IND vs ENG 5th Test: India created history by defeating England by an innings and 64 runs in Dharamshala

New Delhi : The fifth and last match of the five-Test series (India vs England Test Series) between India and England was played in Dharamshala. On the third day of this match, India defeated England by a huge margin of an innings and 64 runs and won the five-match series 4-1. With this victory, the Indian team has created history. Team India has become the first team in the last 112 years to win a five-match series 4-1 after losing the first match of the series.

India had to face defeat by 28 runs against England in Hyderabad in the first match of the series. After this, India made a comeback in the second match of the series in Visakhapatnam and won by 106 runs. After this, in the third match of the series, India defeated England by a huge margin of 434 runs in Rajkot. The fourth match of this series was played in Ranchi and Team India won by 5 wickets. Whereas in Dharamshala, India won by a huge margin by an innings and 64 runs.

This has happened only three times in the 141-year history of Test cricket when a team, after losing the first match of a five-match series, has been successful in winning the remaining matches of the series. Australia first achieved this feat in the year 1897-1898. After this, Australia again achieved this feat in 1901-1902. England did this for the third time in 1912. In such a situation, Team India under the leadership of Rohit Sharma has become the first team after 112 years to win the remaining four matches of the five-match series after losing the first match of the series. Apart from this, India is the third team to achieve this special feat in the history of Test cricket.

If we talk about the match, England won the toss and batted first and scored 218 runs in the first innings. In response, India scored 477 runs in the first innings on the basis of centuries from Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Jaiswal, Sarfaraz Khan and Devdutt Padikkal played half-centuries in the first innings for India. In response, the England team was all out for just 195 runs in the second innings. Ravichandran Ashwin, playing his 100th Test match, took nine wickets in the match. Ashwin took five wickets in the second innings and four wickets in the first innings. Joe Root struggled for England till the end in the second innings, but he did not get support from any other batsman.
