Haldwani violence: Jamiat Ulema Hind has taken a step for legal assistance of the innocent arrested

In Haldwani of Uttarakhand last month after the demolition of a mosque and a madrassa, many Muslims suffered massive losses. Their homes and houses were demolished. Muslims were targeted. Apart from damaging their property, dozens of innocent people were arrested.

Jamiat Ulemaa Hind has now taken a step to help the innocent Muslims. A delegation of Jamiat Ulema Hind headed by Maulana Hakimuddin Qasmi (General Secretary, Jamiat Ulema Hind) reached Haldwani to inspect the riot affected area. The delegation went door-to-door in Mohalla Indira Nagar, Malik Ka Baghecha and Line No. 17 to inform the people and assured them of all possible help.

It should be clear that the local people are very affected by first the bulldozers, then the violence and arrests in Bin Bholpora of Haldwani. So far, more than 100 people, including women, have been arrested. Most of the people in the affected area are poor and laborers.

A delegation of Jamiat Ulema Hind met Additional SP Prakash Chandra, SDM Prityush Verma and SHO Nagar Bhaguni of Bin Bholpura Azadnagar police station and expressed concern over the arbitrary arrests and said that Ramadan is coming. Therefore, people should not be harassed in the name of investigation. The delegation demanded compensation for the loss of shops, houses and vehicles burnt and torched in the riots, as well as rehabilitation of those whose houses were demolished in the bulldozer action.

Moreover, the delegation of Jamiat Ulema Hind, accompanied by Jamiat Ulema Uttarakhand Secretary Abdul Qadir Farmer, held a meeting with the officials of the local Jamiat and a committee was formed for the legal assistance and other needs of the affected people.
