Global Health: Ramadan fasting is an appropriate occasion to reduce weight by one kilo per week

Dr. Ayoub Al-Jawalda, Nutrition Advisor at the World Health Organization, revealed that Ramadan fasting has several benefits, as it is an opportunity to renew activity, increase growth hormones in the human body, and prevent chronic diseases.
Al-Jawalda explained that it has been scientifically proven that fasting for long periods exceeding 10 hours helps get rid of dead cells in the body, warning against wrong practices during the fasting period, such as excessive food intake, fatty meals, and eating all night and during the suhoor period.

Ramadan fasting is an opportunity to lose weight
The advisor pointed out that a person needs a specific number of calories during the day, so with the help of fasting it is possible to reduce weight and overcome obesity, stressing that overeating deprives the fasting person of the benefits of fasting, and warned against eating a lot of sweets, fried foods, fats and salts.

He stressed that the month of Ramadan is an opportunity to renew one's lifestyle, as one can lose weight at a rate of one kilogram per week.

Avoid processed meat
He advised that it is necessary to focus on healthy food, eat vegetables, grilled food, fish and white meat, and avoid unhealthy processed meats because they are among the causes of cancer.

He pointed out that the month of Ramadan is an opportunity to get rid of bad eating habits, and an opportunity to rely on a sound, healthy diet.

The mechanism of fasting depends on the body abstaining from eating for long periods, so the body begins to obtain energy from glucose present in the body, and when the sugar stock runs out during the fasting period, it begins to consume sugars and fats stored in the body’s tissues and to get rid of the toxins accumulated in the body.

On the other hand, the National Institute of Nutrition issued advice for safe fasting during the holy month of Ramadan, stressing in turn that the month of Ramadan is an opportunity to reduce weight.

He warned against eating too much sweets during Ramadan, explaining that it is possible to eat sweets such as rice pudding, balila, and fruit, without overeating sweets.

The institute explained that breakfast should be divided into periods so that a person does not eat his food all at once, and stressed the necessity of eating dates at breakfast because they have multiple benefits, including alerting the stomach to receive food and controlling blood sugar levels.

Salad is essential for breakfast
The institute's experts stressed the importance of drinking water at breakfast to compensate the body for fluid deficiency, and that a salad dish is essential during breakfast, along with protein, whether animal or vegetable.
