German Interior Minister Nancy Weiser announced that her country intends to cooperate with France on security issues during the European Nations Cup (Euro) and the Olympic Games.
"The security of the European Nations Cup in Germany is the highest priority," Weser told the Handelsblatt newspaper, noting that she had agreed to expand security cooperation with her French counterpart, Gerald Darmanen.
She added that German police officers will participate in ensuring security during the Olympic Games in Paris, and French police in the Euros held in Germany.
She stressed that the German security forces are prepared for different scenarios, whether threats from Islamists or electronic attacks.
The European Football Championship will be held in Germany from June 14 to July 14, 2024, while the Olympic Games in Paris begin on July 26 and will continue until August 11.
Western officials and representatives of Western intelligence services fear possible terrorist attacks during the Olympic Games in Paris.
