Germany condemned the Israeli authorities after agreeing to build 3,500 settlement units in the occupied West Bank, considering this a danger to the peoples of the region and a “serious” violation of international law.

On Wednesday, the German Foreign Ministry condemned the Israeli authorities for adopting a plan to build 3,500 new settlement units in the West Bank.

In a statement, the German Foreign Ministry called on the Israeli government to immediately reverse the decision to build new settlements in the West Bank.

The statement stated that Israel's policy of building settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories constitutes a serious violation of international law.

He stressed that Israel's continued construction of settlements undermines all efforts aimed at reaching a two-state solution.

The statement pointed out that there is no justification for building illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank.

He stressed that the expansion of settlements endangers the security and safety of all peoples of the region.

In a related context, the European Union condemned the Israeli authorities’ ratification of the plan to build new settlement units, calling on Tel Aviv to retract this “illegal” decision.

The European Union said in a statement Thursday: “We condemn the Israeli Supreme Planning Committee’s approval of plans to build more than 3,426 housing units, which further expands illegal settlements throughout the occupied West Bank.”

The European Union urged Israel to "retract" those decisions, stressing that Israeli settlements are "illegal under international law, constitute an obstacle to peace and threaten the two-state solution."
