A drug gang kidnapped and killed five Ecuadorian tourists on Ayambe Beach in the southwest of the country after their attackers "mistakenly" thought they were from a rival gang.
Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa expressed his solidarity with the families of the victims.
The president indicated in his account on the “X” platform that a person had been arrested in the case, which shows that drug traffickers “seek to sow terror.”
Noboa confirmed that the authorities will do their utmost to arrest the remaining members of the gang.
According to security sources, about 20 gunmen participated in the kidnapping.
Among the group of tourists who arrived in Ayambe on Thursday afternoon were 6 adults and 5 children.
