Chinese study: Flavonols improve health

Among them are berries and pomegranates. You should eat 6 golden fruits for your heart health.

Scientific Reports magazine reported that scientists at the Second Hospital of Anhui Medical University of China discovered that consuming flavonol compounds helps improve health condition and reduce the risk of death from many diseases.

Flavonols are beneficial health substances found abundantly in tea, onions, and fruits.

The study included 11,679 people over the age of 20. The researchers collected comprehensive information about their health conditions with the help of special questionnaires. They also subjected them to a number of medical examinations and laboratory tests.

The researchers obtained the dietary habits of the study participants in order to evaluate the proportion of flavonols consumed in various foods (mostly vegetarian).

Before the start of the follow-up phase, participants were divided according to social and demographic status, including age, marital status, education level, income level, bad habits, body mass index , and medical history.

It has become clear to researchers that consuming large amounts of flavonol compounds - especially isoramnitin, kaempferol, myricetin, and quercetin - is associated with a reduced risk of death from many causes, including Alzheimer's, cancer, and cardiovascular disease.

In this context, the beneficial properties of flavonols appear to be due to their ability to reduce inflammation in the body, protect cells from oxidative stress  , and improve endothelial function (the tissue lining the interior of blood vessels).
