China's Deputy Representative to the United Nations, Dai Ping, stressed that freedom of expression should not be used as a talisman for hate speech against Muslims, and urged countries of the world not to tolerate discrimination and violence against Muslims.
The Chinese envoy urged all countries to take concrete measures to combat this , prevent incitement to hatred based on religion or belief, and put an end to impunity.
He said during an event marking the International Day to Combat Islamophobia : “China calls for strengthening dialogue and exchanges between various civilizations and religions, rejecting discrimination and bias against specific civilizations and religions, rejecting false and biased arguments regarding the so-called clash of civilizations and the supremacy of some civilizations, and defending equality, mutual learning, dialogue and integration between... Civilizations.
Calling on political figures and the media to assume their necessary legal, moral and social responsibilities.
He stressed that China calls for ensuring the right to development for all, eliminating the nurturing soil of discrimination and intolerance, such as poverty, marginalization and economic disparities, and promoting comprehensive and equitable development.
Dai considered the Chinese and Islamic civilizations as treasures of humanity, adding that they have made great contributions to human progress and development. From the ancient Silk Road to today's Belt and Road Initiative , the friendship between China and Islamic countries has transcended time, stressing that this has not only strongly promoted the cultural prosperity and economic development of both sides, but also provided beneficial experience for exchanges and mutual learning between various civilizations and countries.
