Approval of the “Egypt Capital Cup” tournament within the “FIFA” series

On Monday, the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) announced the inclusion of the “Egypt Capital Cup” tournament in the “FIFA” series of experimental friendly tournaments.
The tournament will be held in Cairo during the period from 22 to 26 March, with the participation of the teams of Egypt, Croatia, Tunisia and New Zealand.

FIFA said in a statement: “In accordance with a decision taken by the FIFA Council in December 2022, and in line with the strategic objectives of the game, the FIFA series will be friendly matches played by teams from different continental federations, who usually do not have the opportunity to confront each other.”

FIFA explained that the experimental series during the year 2024, topped by the Egyptian Capital Championship, will be the model for adopting the series on an expanded basis in the coming years.

He added: "This year's trial version has been expanded to include four additional teams, namely Croatia, Egypt, Tunisia, and New Zealand, to compete in Cairo from March 22-26."

He continued, "The main goal of this new football initiative is to raise the level of international football contact outside the scope of the usual local confrontations, which contributes to the tangible development of football around the world."

With Egypt joining this trial version, the 2024 edition of the FIFA series will witness the participation of 24 federations playing in 5 destinations spread over 3 continents, with all six continental federations represented.

The 2024 edition of the FIFA series will be held in Algeria, Egypt, Azerbaijan, Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia.
