An important breakthrough daily tablets

A team of researchers has developed experimental therapeutic pills that prevent cancerous tumor cells from repairing themselves, leading to their death.

The researchers gave 67 patients with different types of cancer who did not respond to traditional treatment, daily tablets called certifiable. In the first trial, more than half of the participants saw their tumors stop growing, while others stopped developing cancer for at least 3 years.

The research team believes that the drug can be combined with immune-boosting cancer treatments to increase their effectiveness, as it trains the immune system to find and kill cancer cells.

Dr Magnus Dillon, a clinical scientist at the British Cancer Research Institute, says the drug destroys the cancer's DNA, leading to tumor inflammation and stimulating the immune system to attack the cancer.

It is worth noting that one of the patients participating in the study, George Perry (85 years old), suffered from skin cancer in his lower lip that spread to his throat. He was treated with chemotherapy and radiation, along with surgery to remove a bone in his lower jaw.

However, nothing stopped the spread of the disease until he underwent certifiable treatment, as George's cancer remained stable and he suffered no side effects.

Dillon says the next step will be combining the certifiable drug with immunotherapy drugs. “We're still in the early stages but it looks like this could be a really interesting treatment,” he adds.
