Amidst the Israeli bombing a journey of struggle for displaced people from Rafah to get a drink of water

Palestinians in the displacement camp in the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, face a severe shortage of water supplies, which exacerbates their suffering in light of the ongoing Israeli war since October 7, 2023.

Palestinians live in the displacement camp in the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, under the shadow of the ongoing Israeli war since October 7, 2023, and face a severe shortage of water supplies, which increases their suffering.

In long lines, hundreds of displaced people wait to receive drops of water, while water scarcity is due to the lack of electricity and fuel necessary to operate water pumping stations continuously.

The displaced Palestinians set up temporary camps in the city of Rafah, which has a population of about 1,300,000 people, as a result of the difficult conditions they face as a result of the war, according to government officials in Gaza.

Like the rest of the hundreds of displaced people, Saad Al-Tarabin (45 years old) is queuing up, holding empty containers in his hand, patiently waiting for his turn to fill them.

Two days ago, Al-Tarabin and his family, which consists of 9 members, did not get the water they needed, despite their urgent need for it.

The displaced Palestinian, like hundreds of displaced families in Rafah, lives in tragic and difficult conditions due to the lack of water, which is a basic pillar of life.

Al-Tarabin said in a press statement: “Since yesterday until now, I have not received a drop of water, and with the onset of summer, our need for water increases even more. Water is the basis of life, so its absence means the absence of life.”

He explained that the conditions in the displacement camps and the Gaza Strip are worsening day after day due to the continuing war and siege.

The Palestinian hopes that “the world will receive with mercy and compassion” what is happening in the Gaza Strip, and hopes that the countries of the world will provide assistance and support and strive to achieve peace and end the war.

In turn, Umm Suhaib Yassin, 40 years old, is waiting at the edge of her tent, waiting for her children, eager to fill a gallon of water to prepare food for Ramadan breakfast.

When her children returned, Umm Suhaib smiled and welcomed them very warmly, because of the precious treasure they carried for her.

Umm Suhaib said in a press statement: “In displacement camps we face many problems, the most important of which is the water problem. It rarely comes every day for a period ranging between two and three hours, which makes it difficult for us to meet our needs, given the large number of displaced people. We spend our whole day searching.” About water, especially during the month of Ramadan.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insists on carrying out a ground invasion of Rafah. Claiming that it is necessary to eliminate what remains of the Hamas movement.

For weeks, regional and international warnings have been mounting about the repercussions of the possible invasion. With the presence of about 1.4 million displaced people in the city, the Israeli occupation army pushed them there claiming that it was safe and later launched raids that resulted in martyrs and wounded.

This comes as Israel has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, which has left tens of thousands of civilian victims, most of them children and women, in addition to an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe and massive destruction of infrastructure, which led to Tel Aviv appearing before the International Court of Justice. Charged with "genocide".
