Sources revealed to the Wall Street Journal that Nikki Haley will announce later on Wednesday her withdrawal from the Republican presidential race.
People familiar with her plans told the American newspaper that Haley will announce in a speech that she has decided to suspend her attempt to win the Republican Party primary elections, which will determine the party’s nominee for the presidential elections scheduled for next November.
According to information, the former governor of South Carolina and the former US ambassador to the United Nations will deliver a brief speech in the Charleston area at approximately 10 a.m. Eastern time in the United States.
Her decision came the day after Super Tuesday, when she won only the northeastern state of Vermont out of 15 states that held Republican contests.
American television stations reported that her rival, former President Donald Trump, won 13 states: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, California, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
The former president described the night of the results announcement as "wonderful," as he approached obtaining the Republican Party's nomination for the presidential elections.
On Sunday, Haley achieved her first victory in the Republican Party primary elections in the District of Columbia (Washington, DC), which was her first victory over the former president.
