Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced on Sunday that his country is seeking again to search for Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 as the tenth anniversary of the plane's disappearance approaches.
The minister said that the government invited the American company "Ocean Infinity", which specializes in seabed exploration, to discuss the company's latest proposals regarding research efforts after two previous failed attempts.
He added at an event marking the anniversary of the plane's disappearance on Sunday, "The Malaysian government is committed to the search (for flight MH370), and the search must resume."
In January 2017, Malaysia, China and Australia completed a two-year search at a cost of 200 million Australian dollars (130.46 million US dollars) without finding anything. The Minister of Transport explained that Malaysia will hold talks with Australia about cooperating in resuming search operations once the Malaysian Cabinet approves the Ocean Infinity proposal.
Malaysia previously cooperated with Ocean Infinity in 2018 to search the southern Indian Ocean, and offered to pay up to $70 million if it found the plane.
About 500 people gathered on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, to commemorate the victims of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, which disappeared under mysterious circumstances on March 8, 2014, and to demand renewed searches .
On March 8, 2014, the plane, which was heading from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, disappeared, and although pieces of debris were later recovered in the Indian Ocean , it seemed to belong to it, no trace of the 239 people on board, two-thirds of whom were Chinese, was found.
