The name “Super League” has returned to the forefront again, with the return of the major clubs in the English Premier League to talks about launching the new tournament, along with Real Madrid and Barcelona.
According to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo", the six major clubs in the English Premier League have resumed private talks with (A22 Company), which promotes the European Super League.
It was revealed that these talks began since the European Court of Justice issued a ruling on December 21, against the European Football Association’s monopoly on organizing the game’s competitions.
Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham were among the founding members of the project, which was announced on April 19, 2021.
But they later backed down due to sharp criticism from their fans who organized protests against the Super League, in addition to being exposed to political pressure from the British government.
Despite this, the company contributing to the project has always stressed that the Premier League clubs are still linked to the European Super League, and the decision of the European Court of Justice represented a turning point for the resumption of the controversial tournament.
