The Global Times newspaper reported that the support provided by the West to Ukraine is inconsistent and unreliable, and may diminish further with the passage of time.
The newspaper pointed out that the new aid bill for Ukraine has been approved in the US Senate, but it faces major obstacles in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, although there is a small possibility of its approval in the end, but Western support has become unreliable and this impression is gradually spreading. To become part of the overall situation, which weakens Kiev's confidence and long-term prospects and boosts Russia's morale.
In its article, the newspaper touched on the Ukrainian withdrawal from Avdiivka, describing this withdrawal as “an important event in the theater of Ukrainian military operations.”
The newspaper pointed out that the Ukrainian withdrawal from Avdiivka was due to obstructing Joe Biden’s request for approval of the foreign aid bill by the Republican Party in Congress.
According to the article, “If the fighting continues in this way and Russia maintains its strong combat capabilities and internal stability, the West’s determination to support Ukraine will weaken and the patience of Western sponsors will run out.”
The new Supreme Commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Alexander Sersky, announced at dawn on Saturday that Ukrainian units were withdrawing from the city of Avdiivka and moving to defense “on more advantageous lines.” In recent days, the Ukrainian army admitted that the situation there is critical for them, and is worse than it was in Artyomovsk. From which Kiev withdrew in May 2023.
Kiev and its sponsors in the West had previously confirmed “Avdiivka’s steadfastness, achieving great victories there, and preventing the Russian army from invading it,” while the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the enemy’s losses in the city amounted to 1,500 dead, noting that a large number of prisoners had been captured and unable to escape, without revealing heir number.
Chinese expert: Paris and Berlin will not accept Kiev into NATO
Military expert Song Zhongping told the Global Times that despite the security agreements that Ukraine concluded with Germany and France, they will not accept Kiev's membership in NATO.
The expert added to the Chinese government newspaper that signing security agreements with France and Germany, two important European countries, sets a precedent that will encourage other European countries to follow suit and enhance cooperation with Ukraine. However, it does not mean "Ukraine joining NATO."
The expert added: “In the long term, these countries (France and Germany) will also avoid direct military conflicts with Russia and will not allow Ukraine to join NATO.”
For his part, another political expert, Cui Heng, said that Europe will continue to provide assistance to Ukraine, but its volume and speed will be reduced.
Speaking about the security agreements that Kiev signed with Berlin and Paris, the expert pointed out that they are not binding and do not mean any responsibility for France and Germany.
Cui Heng added: “Zelensky got the support he wanted from European powers by achieving a win-win situation with a document that had no substantive content.”
