A new study has revealed that all living organisms on Earth are able to grow and develop at the ideal temperature of 20 degrees Celsius.
A recent review of previous studies confirmed that the suitable temperature ranges for animals, plants and microbes that live in air and water overlap at 20 degrees Celsius.
“We found evidence that temperatures above 20°C become suboptimal for all domains of life, including animals, plants and prokaryotes,” the international research team wrote.
This temperature is pivotal for the efficiency of biological processes because of the molecular properties of water in cells, they said.
The study showed that the efficiency of chemical processes inside cells increases as temperatures rise, and may reach a maximum, then decreases rapidly when their temperature rises, which means that temperatures higher than 20 degrees Celsius can lead to many decisive changes among living organisms. Such as a reduced ability to tolerate low oxygen levels in marine species.
In light of global warming and climate changes, creatures that are unable to move to better temperatures may have greater difficulty adapting.
Marine species can adapt to thermal changes through their geographic distribution, but terrestrial species may not be able to adapt so easily “due to natural features altered by agriculture, urbanization and other human infrastructure.”
The study concluded that temperatures continuing to rise and exceeding the 20 degree Celsius barrier in some areas could lead to a decrease in natural diversity.
The researchers also found similar evidence of extinctions in fossil records, when temperatures remained above this threshold for long periods.
Greater awareness of the impact of 20°C on organisms may lead to new insights into how temperature controls ecosystem processes, species abundance and distribution, and the evolution of life.
What is the role of tanks in contemporary military conflicts?
Retired Colonel and Russian military analyst Andrei Koshkin spoke about the fate of tanks in contemporary military conflicts.
He said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces believe that tanks will no longer be used on the battlefield due to the use of drones.
The expert doubted this, indicating in an interview with the Russian online newspaper Lenta.ru that work on strengthening tank armor is continuing.
He also noted that even before the special military operation it was believed that tanks, like artillery, had lost their importance. But with the advent of drones, artillery has returned and has become a much-needed weapon on the battlefield, as well as tanks, because the soldier always needs to hide behind armor. Therefore, where there is a fighter, there must be tanks.
As for the drones, according to the expert, they have already created a lot of problems for tanks. Therefore, a special net has now been installed on armored vehicles, used to protect against suicide drones, preventing direct damage to the armor. He expressed his confidence in continuing to work on developing the dynamic protection of tanks and developing their other characteristics.
