Air alert and explosions in a number of Ukrainian cities

An air alert was declared in a number of Ukrainian regions at night and dawn on Monday, with explosions recorded in some cities.

A state of air alert was declared at dawn in 4 provinces of western Ukraine, namely Ternopol, Rovno, Volyn and Lvov, after sirens sounded in the provinces of Vinnitsa and Cherkasy (central), Nikolaev and Odessa (south), in addition to the capital, Kiev, which was rocked by a powerful explosion on Saturday evening.

The spokeswoman for the Operational Command "South" of the Ukrainian forces, Natalia Gumenyuk, reported that damage was caused to a port infrastructure facility in Odessa. She said, "A fire broke out there, but it was quickly extinguished," without giving further details.

The weather alert in the Odessa region continued on Monday night for more than 3.5 hours, and Ukrainian media reported a series of explosions in the city.

Explosions occurred at night in Lvov province, according to the Zirkalo Nedeli newspaper, while Lvov Mayor Andrei Sadovoy confirmed that explosions had been recorded in the city, leading to the outbreak of fires.

Zirkalo Ndeli also reported that several series of explosions had occurred last night in the Kiev-controlled city of Kherson, without giving details, while the local authorities did not comment on the situation.

This comes after the devastating Ukrainian missile attack that targeted the Russian city of Belgorod on Saturday, leaving more than 20 dead and 100 wounded.

The Russian Defense Ministry said on Sunday that its forces struck decision-making centers and military sites in the Ukrainian city of Kharkov, in response to the Belgorod attack.

Since October 10 of last year, the Russian army has been directing precise missile strikes against energy sites, military industries, military command centers, communications, and infrastructure of Kiev forces throughout Ukraine.
