Scientists have come to the conclusion that although sweets are harmful, completely excluding sugar from the diet is not beneficial.
Very Well Health indicates that Professor Frank from Harvard University doubts the benefit of completely abandoning sugar in the diet.
According to him, for proper nutrition, there is no need to completely eliminate sugar, but you must carefully monitor the composition of products and limit the consumption of added sugar in processed foods.
He points out that attention should be paid to natural sweeteners. “Compared to added sugar, honey, maple syrup and agave syrup are only slightly better because they have a lower glycemic index and contain some vitamins and minerals. But excessive consumption of any added sugar can cause the same health problems.”
According to him, instead of following a sugar-free diet, it is better to get it from fruits, because they do not cause a sudden rise in blood glucose levels. Giving up sugar completely will not be beneficial.
According to Dr. Sandra Arevalo, completely giving up sugar means giving up beneficial carbohydrates that the body uses to obtain energy.
“Not all types of sugar should be considered harmful,” she says. “Because the main problem is the amount of sugar consumed.”
Detecting early signs of suspected dementia
A diagnosis of dementia can be the result of a medical error. What tests are needed to determine whether a person has actually developed dementia?
Dr. Marini Tanashyan, Deputy Director of the Scientific Center for Neurology, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, told aif Russian newspaper that to identify dementia it is enough to talk to the person or to those close to him.
According to her, the decline in memory, attention and concentration is not the main criterion for the disease but also the person's need for help. If a person cannot pay utility bills on his own, for example, or go to the store, and needs an assistant, this serves as the basis for the diagnosis. In practice, errors in diagnosis do not occur, because most patients turn to doctors when the diagnosis is clear even to them.
The first signs of dementia are usually hidden in the details that alert and sensitive relatives recognize before others. This is a social problem - so these people should not be left alone.
According to her, when there are changes in the blood vessels, a person becomes apathetic, loses interest in previous hobbies, ignores friends or relatives, and stops paying attention to personal hygiene. Neurodegeneration is characterized by behavioral changes (sudden aggression, antisocial attacks).
Based on this, we should not expect extreme actions from him. Because these simple signs already indicate cognitive disorders that have not yet reached the stage of dementia, but they serve as a harbinger of it.
