The resigned president of the Turkish Ankaragucu club, Faruk Koca, was banned for life after assaulting a referee, the Turkish Football Federation announced on Thursday.
The Disciplinary Board of the local football federation also punished the Ankaragucu team by forcing it to play five matches at home behind closed doors to the fans, and fined it $66,000.
Koca announced his resignation from his position last Tuesday, following the assault incident.
Koca directed a strong punch at referee Halil Umut Miller in the face on the field after his team's match against Rizespor, which ended in a 1-1 draw on December 19, which resulted in injury to the referee's eye.
