The French right fails to pass a bill demanding the cancellation of the 1968 agreement signed with Algeria

The right-wing French opposition failed to pass a draft resolution demanding the cancellation of the 1968 agreement between Algeria and France to facilitate the entry of Algerians into French territory.
Le Figaro newspaper reported that the National Assembly in Parliament rejected, on Thursday, a text asking the French authorities to denounce the Franco-Algerian agreement of 1968, which grants special status to Algerians in the field of movement, residence, and work in France.

The resolution proposal was rejected by a majority of 151 votes to 114 votes in favour.

The agreement was signed in 1968, when France needed help for its economy, and the agreement excludes Algerians from common law in immigration matters.

This agreement enables Algerian immigrants freedom of movement and the freedom to carry out an independent commercial activity or profession. They can also obtain a 10-year residence permit more quickly than is available to citizens of other countries.
