The United States and the European Union consider the draft climate agreement “inadequate” and in need of amendment

The European Union and America considered the draft agreement proposed by the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) insufficient and in need of strengthening its wording.
“There are some good things in it, but overall it is clearly insufficient and inappropriate to address the problem we are here to address,” EU Climate Commissioner Fopke Hoekstra told reporters, adding that the text contains elements that “simply cannot be accepted.”

French Minister of Energy Transition, Agnes Pannier-Ronache, a participant in the Dubai conference, said: “This text is insufficient, insufficient, There are unacceptable elements as stated, It is disappointing.”

Spain's Minister of Environmental Transition, Teresa Ribera, whose country holds the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union, stated that the text is "clearly insufficient."

In turn, the United States called for “strengthening” the wording of the draft final text of the climate conference, and using a stronger wording, noting that it does not include the word “dispensing” with fossil fuels.

A US State Department spokesman said: “We appreciate the efforts made by many to write a text that seeks to balance diverse interests.” "At the same time, the mitigation section, including the issue of fossil fuels, needs to strengthen the wording, and the financing section contains inaccuracies that need to be corrected," he added.

The UAE will host the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in Expo City Dubai during the period from November 30 to December 12.
