French Prime Minister Elisabeth Bourne has signed a circular asking all government members and employees to delete foreign messaging apps.
The French Prime Minister believes that “instead of WhatsApp, Telegram, and Signal, government members should use the Olvid messenger application developed by a French company.”
Bleeping Computer newspaper noted, “The circular does not consider a ban on foreign messaging applications, but rather recommends switching to local applications by December 8 of this year, as the French authorities consider that locally developed applications are safer than foreign applications, since the source codes of French applications were carefully studied beforehand.” Specialists from the National Cybersecurity Agency.
According to the French leadership, “The Olvid application meets all modern security standards, supports end-to-end encryption using a decentralized architecture, and does not require a phone number or other personal data to log in to it.”
Makes sense.
