Allowing Russian athletes to participate in the Paris Olympics in a neutral national capacity

The International Olympic Committee allowed athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in the Olympic Games in Paris, as athletes with neutral national status.
The committee announced in a statement on its website today, Friday, that “the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee decided that individual neutral athletes (AINS) who qualified under the current qualification systems of international federations will be declared eligible to compete in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.”

The statement explained that Russian and Belarusian athletes can participate in the games, but as neutrals (nationally).

The Olympic Games will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024.

Earlier, international sports federations asked the International Olympic Committee to accept the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes under a neutral flag “as soon as possible” in the Olympic Games, which will be held in Paris in the summer of 2024.
