A 21-year-old player named Caio Henrique died and five other players were injured and burned after a lightning bolt struck the field during an amateur football match in the Brazilian Cup.
Caio Henrique was from the Gabeira team that faced Santo Antônio da Platina in the first stage of the Brazilian Cup.
A video circulating on social media, moments after the incident, showed footage of Jabera players falling and receiving help.
Caio Henrique received first aid on the field, but he died of his injury about two hours after he was struck by lightning.
Of the other five injured, one is still in serious condition.
Jose da Silva, mayor of the municipality of Santo Antônio da Platina, where the match was held, said in a statement that the municipality stands in solidarity with the victims, stressing that “every effort” has been made to provide the best possible care for the injured.

Today, Monday, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the ideal formation on the African continent for the year 2023.
This came on the sidelines of the Best in Africa Awards ceremony, which was held in the Moroccan city of Marrakesh.
Egyptian Mohamed Salah comes alongside Moroccan duo Ashraf Hakimi and Sofiane Amrabat at the head of the ideal CAF formation.
The formation was as follows:
Goalkeeper: Andre Onana (Cameroon).
Defense: Kalidou Koulibaly (Senegal) – Chancel Mbemba (Congo) – Achraf Hakimi (Morocco).
Midfielders: Sofiane Amrabat (Morocco) - Mohamed Kuddous (Ghana) - Anguissa (Cameroon) - Thomas Partey (Ghana).
Attacking line: Sadio Mane (Senegal) – Victor Osimhen (Nigeria) – Mohamed Salah (Egypt).
