The World Health Organization on Wednesday expressed its concern about the increase in cases of respiratory diseases and pneumonia in China, and demanded detailed information from Beijing about this.
The organization said in a statement published on the “X” platform that it “sent an official request to China to obtain detailed information about the increase in respiratory diseases and the outbreak of pneumonia among children,” calling for “steps to reduce the risk of respiratory diseases.”
The organization said it is seeking additional information about these infections.
It recommended that residents in China "take the necessary measures to reduce the risk of respiratory diseases."
The organization indicated that the Chinese authorities attributed this increase in respiratory diseases to the lifting of restrictions related to Covid-19 and the spread of known pathogens.
The statement continued, "On November 22, the World Health Organization requested additional epidemiological and clinical information, in addition to laboratory results about reported outbreaks of the disease among children."
A spokeswoman for the organization confirmed to Agence France-Presse the veracity of the statement.
The health organization's statement came after a significant increase in the number of children suffering from respiratory diseases and pneumonia was recorded in northern China.
Study: A nutrient in beef and dairy products helps fight cancer!
Researchers have discovered that a nutrient found in beef, lamb, and dairy products boosts the body's immune cells to fight tumors.
Trans-vaccenic acid (TVA), a type of fatty acid found in natural milk but obtained primarily through diet, has been shown to help immune cells known as CD8+ T cells invade tumors and destroy cancer cells.
The results, published in the journal Nature, showed that cancer patients with higher levels of TVA circulating in the blood responded better to immunotherapy.
This suggests that TVA could have potential as a nutritional supplement to complement clinical cancer treatments, the scientists said.
“There are many studies trying to disentangle the connection between diet and human health, and it is very difficult to understand the reasons behind this,” said Dr. Jing Chen, a professor of medicine at the University of Chicago and one of the senior authors of the new study.
"By focusing on nutrients that can activate T-cell responses, we found a substance that actually enhances anti-tumor immunity by activating an important immune pathway," he added.
In the study, it was shown that rodents that were fed a diet rich in TVA significantly reduced the tumor growth potential of skin cancer and colon cancer cells, compared to mice that were fed another diet.
The researchers also investigated the mechanism by which TVA helps immune cells fight cancer, and found that it inactivates a cell surface protein called GPR43 and activates a cell signaling process known as the CREB pathway, which involves functions such as cell growth and survival.
The team then analyzed blood samples taken from patients undergoing immunotherapy for lymphoma and found that those with higher levels of TVA tended to respond better to treatment than those with lower levels.
They also tested leukemia cell lines — lab-grown cells that come from a single parent cell — and saw that TVA enhanced the immunotherapy drug's ability to kill leukemia cells.
However, they warn that although TVA is found in beef, lamb and dairy products such as milk and cheese, there is a growing body of evidence that consuming too much red meat and dairy products may be harmful to health.
Dr. Chen suggests that TVA could be used as a nutritional supplement to aid in various cancer treatments.
Very worrying!
