Due to the project's secrecy, not enough information is available about it, so it is always vulnerable to creating different stories. However, the media follows it with interest, comparing it to a nuclear weapon, even though it does not destroy the enemy's military equipment, but only paralyzes and silences it.
It was first mentioned by the media in 2014, when information leaked stating that the company that manufactured this weapon had conducted field tests for “Yelabuga” and had now begun to introduce modifications to its design.
An unnamed source at the Russian governmental institution "Rostec" at the time explained that this weapon was a missile carrying a warhead containing a powerful device for radiating electromagnetic waves. If the missile explodes at an altitude of between 200 and 300 meters, a strong electromagnetic effect begins, as it can disable electronic devices with a diameter of 3.5 kilometers. This means that all military equipment in that area immediately turns into a mass of scrap metal.
The source said that tests of this weapon have shown its high effectiveness, noting that its main problem lies in finding a safe way to deliver it to an area intended to be affected by electromagnetic waves without being exposed to hostile air defenses.
In 2017, Vladimir Mikheyev, Deputy General Director of the Wireless Electronic Technologies Company, stated that these designs had moved to the development stage of the electromagnetic weapon project in the form of missiles, bombs and missiles carrying an electromagnetic generator that is activated as a result of their explosion in the atmosphere.
The Western media responded to this statement, including the Daily Star newspaper, which published an article entitled “Russia is developing a secret weapon more powerful than the atomic bomb.” The author of the article, Tom Towers, announced that “Yelabuga” can neutralize entire armies.
Now, media interest in it has returned against the backdrop of the special military operation, as military-technical analyst Andrei Klintsevich, in his Telegram channel, brought to mind this electromagnetic complex, which will form a new, highly effective winged platform. We are now awaiting new news about that platform on the ground of the special military operation.
Russia possesses an advanced weather sensing system
Russian media reported that Moscow has become one of the leading cities in the world in the fields of weather monitoring and meteorological conditions.
Regarding the issue, Galina Maksimova, head of the Russian Meteorological Development Authority, said: “Russia now has one of the most advanced systems in the field of weather monitoring. The system includes many meteorological stations, Doppler radars, and thousands of weather sensors, and Moscow has become one of the leading cities around the world.” In this field, the latest technologies are being adopted to monitor the weather in light of the new weather doctrine adopted by Russia.”
She added: “There may sometimes be 100 weather monitoring stations in some Russian cities, and data on temperature, rainfall intensity, and snow depth can be obtained every 20 minutes, and six hours before the snow begins to fall, it can be predicted in which specific areas of the city it will fall, Two years ago, Moscow purchased a new Doppler radar, and we are now able to directly monitor the clouds and the speed of their movement in a circle with a diameter of 100 km, and most importantly, we have become able to monitor the surface layer of the atmosphere, to know whether the precipitation will be snowy, rainy, or rain accompanied by snow. This helps us predict the amounts of rain and snow that will fall on the city’s streets.”
Maximova pointed out that Moscow, thanks to the modern technologies it has acquired, has become a leader in the field of weather monitoring in Russia and the world as well, as high-precision sensors are being installed in every area of the city to estimate rainfall amounts, determine wind directions and speeds, and monitor temperatures.
