Who is the 'Indian coach' who took Afghanistan team's batting to a new height?
Milap Mewada is the batting coach of the Afghanistan team. In August 2023, Afghanistan Cricket Board appointed Milap Mewada as batting coach. Milap Mewada has brought a lot of improvement in Afghanistan's batting.
Who is Milap Mewada: On October 15, when Afghanistan was playing a match against England (ASG vs ENG), no one expected that Afghanistan could defeat a great team like England. Earlier, Afghanistan had never defeated England in ODI matches. Also, this was a World Cup match (World Cup 2023), so there was a lot of pressure on Afghanistan. Batting first, Afghanistan scored 284 runs. Making 284 against England It was no small thing. Afghanistan was successful in all-out England for just 215. Similarly, Afghanistan created history by winning the match by 69 runs. They achieved the honor of winning the first match against England. At that time the question started arising that Afghanistan team will not be able to chase under pressure. When it comes to chasing, they will lose under pressure.
The match between Afghanistan and Pakistan started on 23 October. Batting first, Pakistan scored 286 runs. Chasing 287 runs was not easy for a team like Afghanistan. Pakistan had many excellent bowlers. It seemed that Afghanistan would lose the match under pressure but Afghanistan's batsmen batted brilliantly and won the match by 8 wickets. Pakistan's bowlers were looking pale in front of Afghanistan's batsmen. For the first time in history, Afghanistan defeated Pakistan in ODI matches.
Milap Mewada is the batting coach of the Afghanistan team. In August 2023, Afghanistan Cricket Board appointed Milap Mewada as batting coach. Milap Mewada has brought a lot of improvement in Afghanistan's batting. Milap is a resident of Gujarat. He has played first-class matches for Baroda. Earned name as a wicketkeeper and batsman. Played 11 first-class and 26 List A matches between 1998 and 2005. Milap has been successful in earning more name for himself as a coach than as a player.
Milap has been the coach of Jammu-Kashmir, Chhattisgarh and Hyderabad teams. Under the guidance of Milap Mewada, Jammu and Kashmir team was successful in reaching the quarter-finals of Rajini Trophy 2019-20. With Milap's guidance, Umran Malik was successful in improving his bowling and line-length significantly. Milap and Umran Malik meet in a practice match. Milap is surprised to see Umran's speed but is also troubled by his poor line length.
He feels that if the line-length is corrected then Umran can become a good bowler and then helps in improving the line-length. Not only Umran but batsmen like Tilak Verma have been seen working to take Milaap forward. Afghanistan team's batting has improved only because of the match. There is no doubt that Afghanistan's head coach Jonathan Trott has also been successful in playing a very important role in this.
