Israel transfers 39 Palestinian male and female prisoners to Ofer Prison in preparation for their release

Israeli media announced, on Friday, the beginning of the transfer of Palestinian prisoners scheduled to be released in the exchange deal, to Ofer Prison in the West Bank. Meanwhile, 13 Israeli prisoners are expected to be released from Gaza via the Rafah crossing.

On Friday, the Israeli authorities transferred 39 Palestinian male and female prisoners to Ofer Prison in the central West Bank, in preparation for their release within the framework of a prisoner exchange deal with the Palestinian factions.

The Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth said on its website: “The 24 female security prisoners have left Damon Prison, and the 15 security prisoners have left Megiddo Prison, who will be released as part of the hostage deal.”

She added: “The detainees are transported in a convoy to Ofer prison and under heavy guard,” without revealing the names of the male and female prisoners included in the release process.

Local sources in East Jerusalem said that the Israeli police summoned a number of families of Palestinian prisoners to be released, and warned them against showing any signs of celebration.

The families had decided on their own not to celebrate, taking into account the large number of martyrs in Gaza.

Today, Friday, 13 Israelis are scheduled to be released from Gaza through the Rafah crossing, and Israel will simultaneously release 39 Palestinians from Israeli prisons.

The prisoners are being released in batches over a period of 4 days, to include 50 Israelis and 150 Palestinians, all of whom are women and children from both sides.

Hamas has about 239 Israelis whom it captured last October 7, during an attack it carried out on the “Gaza envelope” settlements, while Israel detains in its prisons about 7,000 Palestinian prisoners, including 200 children, 78 women, and hundreds of sick and wounded.
