ICC will trial stop watch
The CEC agreed to introduce a stop clock on a trial basis in men's ODI and T20I cricket from December 2023 to April 2024. The clock will be used to know the time elapsed between overs. If the bowling team is not ready to bowl the next over within 60 seconds of the completion of the previous over, a penalty of 5 runs will be imposed if this happens for the third time in the innings.
This rule will be used initially as a trial. This decision was taken in the ICC Board meeting held here. The ICC said in a statement, "The Committee of Chief Executives agreed that the 'Stop Clock' will be used on a trial basis in men's ODI and T20 international cricket from December 2023 to April 2024. This clock will be used to keep an eye on the time taken between overs.
According to the statement, "If the bowling team is not ready to bowl the next over within 60 seconds of finishing the previous over, then a penalty of five runs will be imposed for doing so for the third time in the innings." Also changed its procedure for restricting pitches.
"Changes to the pitch and outfield monitoring rules were also approved, including simplifying the criteria on which pitches are evaluated and removing demerit points over a five-year period to remove the venue's international status," the ICC said. The number will be changed to six digits instead of five.
