Copa Libertadores, Fluminense defeats Boca Juniors and wins the title for the first time in its history

Brazilian Fluminense won the South American Football Libertadores Cup for the first time in its history, beating Argentinian Boca Juniors 2-1 after extra time (regular time 1-1) on Sunday.
In the final match hosted by the famous Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Argentine Germán Cano and John Kennedy scored goals for Fluminense in the 36th and 99th minutes, and Peruvian Luis Advincula scored for Boca Juniors in the 72nd minute.

The two teams completed the match with ten players after Kennedy was sent off with a second yellow card after scoring the second goal for crossing the sponsorship boards and celebrating with the fans in the stands in the 102nd minute, and Boca's Colombian defender Frank Fabra for directing a blow to the face of Fluminense captain Nino (105+7).

Fluminense kept the title in Brazil for the fifth time in a row, a series that no other country has achieved in 64 years in this tournament.

Fluminense had previously reached the Copa Libertadores final once, losing to the Ecuadorian League de Quito in 2008.

Fluminense, which guaranteed participation in the Club World Cup scheduled to be held in Saudi Arabia next December, deprived the Argentine team of its seventh title and equaling the record of its compatriot Independiente.
