Candidate for Egypt's presidential elections: We lost the opportunity for a military solution to the Renaissance Dam problem

The candidate for the Egyptian presidential elections, Abdel-Sanad Yamama, head of the Wafd Party, said that Egypt could have put an end to the problem of the Renaissance Dam before it was built, because after construction the solution would lead to the drowning of Egypt and Sudan.
Yamama added during a press conference, on Thursday, to announce his electoral program: “We are still negotiating and negotiating, and the military proposal has ended because harming the dam will lead to the drowning of Sudan and Egypt, and its time has been since 2020, and the second and dangerous issue to confront this danger, the principles were announced between Egypt and Sudan.” And Ethiopia, and the heads of the three countries agreed, and it ended in an agreement of principles in 2015, the text of which stated that the three countries committed themselves to it, which are 10 principles, and I see that the principles included in this agreement detract from Egypt’s rights and Ethiopia did not respect them.”

He said that the Nile River passes through 11 countries, and no country can refuse to pass water to the rest of the countries.

He explained that this is contrary to international law, which governs the equitable use of river water, and if equitable use conflicts, historical rights take precedence.

He continued: We have been living on the Nile River’s share since ancient times, and there are 3 international agreements since 1995 onwards, which obligated Ethiopia to Egypt’s historic share regarding these agreements, so there is a legal basis for Egypt’s acquired rights.

He pointed out that the problem is old and is represented by Ethiopia's claims to build the Renaissance Dam to generate energy. We receive 55.5 billion cubic meters of water, while Ethiopia has more than 1,200 billion cubic meters and is rich in water sources.

He explained that international law gives Egypt solutions, but this text restricts Egypt’s right to resort to settling any dispute over the dam except through negotiation, and the necessary solution is to withdraw from this agreement in order to regain our freedom to return to means of resolving the dispute, and these are the most important issues in the electoral program.
