Trudeau : We do not want our relations with New Delhi to deteriorate due to the expulsion of diplomats

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Tuesday that his country does not seek to aggravate relations with New Delhi amid information about India's deportation of about 40 Canadian diplomats.

Commenting on a Financial Times report that stated that India had requested the return of about 40 Canadian diplomats to their homeland by October 10, Trudeau said: “We do not intend to escalate the situation,” and added that Ottawa will continue to work to establish a “constructive relationship with India during these difficult times.” ".

Earlier on Tuesday, the Financial Times reported, citing sources, that India had asked Canada to summon 41 diplomats, and according to them, New Delhi threatened to deprive Canadian representatives on this list of diplomatic immunity if they remained in India after the specified date.

It is noteworthy that the number of Canadian diplomats present in India is 62, and the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indian government refused to comment on this news when contacted by the Financial Times.

As a reminder, relations between Canada and India have been strained since Ottawa decided, last September 18, to expel a senior Indian diplomat due to allegations that Indian intelligence agencies were involved in the killing of the leader of the Canadian Sikh community, Hardeep Singh Nigar.

Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Jolie said that this diplomat is a representative of Indian intelligence. Jolie warned that Canada will not tolerate any interference in its affairs.

After that, the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Canadian Ambassador Cameron MacKay and announced to him a similar response decision from New Delhi. The Canadian Foreign Ministry believes that Canadian politicians openly sympathize with Khalistani terrorists and extremists, which causes deep concern. The Indian Embassy in Ottawa has also stopped issuing visas and advised Indian citizens to avoid traveling to Canada.

“Embarrassing for him and his father.” Hunter Biden stands before the court on charges of possessing an illegal weapon

On Tuesday, Hunter Biden, the son of the current US president, will stand before a federal court in Delaware where he will plead not guilty to the charge of illegally possessing a weapon. Hunter Biden, who was a lawyer and then a businessman, turned to painting after he emerged from his struggle with drug and alcohol addiction.

On Tuesday, Hunter Biden, the son of the current US president, will stand before a federal court in Delaware (east), where he will plead not guilty to the charge of illegally possessing a weapon.

Hunter Biden (53 years old) is considered a favorite target for the Republican opponents of his father, Joe Biden, led by his predecessor Donald Trump, who consider him the Democratic president's weak point.

Biden Jr. is accused of lying when he filled out a form to possess a firearm in 2018, in which he denied being a drug addict, something he later admitted.

His lawyer, Father David Lowell, said that he will plead his innocence during the charges being brought against him before a federal court in Wilmington, Delaware, the birthplace of the Biden family.

Lowell requested that his client, who resides in California (west), be represented via video technology.

But the judge rejected this, noting that this first appearance “is one of the few occasions in a criminal file during which the accused appears in person in our court before the judge.”

He added, "The majority of the charges against the accused are new and were not mentioned during his previous appearance in July 2023, so this will be the first time they are discussed before the court."

If convicted, he faces the possibility of being sentenced to 25 years in prison as a maximum penalty, but in practice such prosecutions alone rarely lead to life imprisonment.

Special prosecutor

In June, Hunter Biden reached a first plea agreement with Delaware prosecutor David Weiss that included charges of tax fraud and illegal gun possession, which could have spared him prison time and an embarrassing trial for him and his father.

However, a judge challenged the legality of the agreement. Prosecutors under Weiss subsequently confirmed that the agreement had fallen through.

On September 12, Republicans, who constitute a majority in the House of Representatives, launched an investigation to impeach the Democratic president regarding his son’s controversial issues abroad, accusing Joe Biden of fueling a “culture of corruption,” and the White House strongly condemned this measure.

Republicans accuse the Democratic administration of doing everything to shut down proceedings targeting Hunter Biden.

Hunter Biden, who was a lawyer and then a businessman, turned to painting after he emerged from his struggle with drug and alcohol addiction.

In May, Joe Biden announced to MSNBC that he "trusts him" and is "proud of him."

Diplomatic sources: Blinken visits Saudi Arabia and Morocco after his trip to Israel to push the normalization process

The Israeli "I24" channel reported, citing diplomatic sources, that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will travel to Israel and Palestine, and has added Saudi Arabia and Morocco to the itinerary of his Middle East tour.

"I24" reported that Blinken's visit will take place in the third week of this October, and will be part of Washington's efforts to advance the normalization process between Israel and Saudi Arabia.

It is noteworthy that this will not be the first time that there will be a direct flight from Israel to Saudi Arabia, since US President Joe Biden traveled on this route in July 2022 when he visited it.

Israeli ministers visited Saudi Arabia, where the Israeli Minister of Tourism made his first public visit last week, and the Minister of Communications made his first official visit yesterday, Monday.

Before that, there was an emergency landing of a flight with Israeli passengers on board, which led to a direct flight from Saudi Arabia to Israel.

Last Tuesday , Israeli Minister of Tourism Haim Katz  arrived in Saudi Arabia at the head of his country’s delegation to the United Nations Tourism Organization conference, and it was the first time that an Israeli minister traveled to Saudi Arabia .

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman previously  said in an interview with Fox News that Saudi Arabia is close to normalizing relations with Israel, but the Palestinian issue remains important for negotiations.

In turn, Netanyahu said that  there is a chance to reach a peace agreement with Saudi Arabia within the  next few months, or it will be postponed for several years.
