Lice and bed bugs a French crisis threatens the 2024 Paris Olympics

France is concerned about the resurgence of bedbugs across the country, with fears growing that the crawlies could impact the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The French government announced that it had launched efforts to combat bedbugs that appeared in very large numbers recently in the capital, Paris.

This came hours after videos spread on social media showing the spread of the blood-sucking insect in the Paris metro, Charles de Gaulle Airport and several other places, according to France 24.

This comes a few months before the start of the Paris Olympics scheduled for July and August 2024.

Transport Minister Clement Beaune came out on his account on the X platform and wrote: “I will gather the transportation operators next week to discuss the matter.”

At the same time, the French government pledged to confront the insect quickly, seeking to eliminate it and take measures to protect users of public places and transportation in Paris.

It is noteworthy that the President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, invited 203 countries, with the exception of Russia and Belarus, to participate in the Paris Olympics next summer, against the backdrop of the Russian military operation in Ukraine.
