A 5.7 magnitude earthquake hits Nepal

An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale struck in Nepal on Tuesday.

The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) reported that the earthquake occurred at 12:21 Moscow time, 51 km northeast of the city of Debial, and at a depth of 25 km.


The earthquake's aftershocks reached India, where they were felt by residents of the capital, New Delhi, and buildings swayed for several minutes. According to sources, the earthquake continued for a minute and a half.

A total of 37 male suspects associated with Newsclick have been interrogated by Delhi Police in the office premises. While 9 female suspects were interrogated at their homes. Along with this, the police have seized many documents including laptops, cellphones of journalists for investigation. Police action is still going on.


New Delhi : Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested Prabir Purkayastha, editor in chief of the website NewsClick. HR head Amit Chakraborty has also been arrested. Action has been taken against both of them under UAPA Act. On Tuesday morning, Delhi Police raided more than 30 locations of the website Newsclick. Many journalists were also detained.

Delhi Police sources told NDTV, "A total of 37 male suspects associated with Newsclick have been interrogated on the premises. While 9 female suspects were interrogated at their homes. Along with this, the police also seized the laptops, cellphones and many other things of the journalists. "The documents have been seized for investigation. Police action is still ongoing."In fact, on August 5, the American newspaper New York Times had released a report saying that Newsclick was financed by an American billionaire Novel Roy Singham. They fund organizations around the world including India to promote Chinese propaganda. On the basis of this report, a case was registered against Newsclick on 17 August. 

Police raided more than 100 locations (sites) in five cities Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Mumbai. More than 500 policemen were involved in this. 

Newsclick claims to have received Rs 38 crore from Chinese entities

Delhi Police has claimed that Newsclick received approximately Rs 38 crore from entities with alleged links to China. This fund was used to influence pro-China content on the website. Police sources said that Rs 29 crore was received as fees for export services, while Rs 9 crore was received as FDI by increasing share prices. Sources say that the fund was also shared with activists Teesta Setalvad and Gautam Navlakha.

Earlier, on August 22, Delhi High Court had given notice to Prabir Purkayastha, Editor in Chief of Newsclick. This notice was given on the petition of the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police. On July 7, 2021, Delhi High Court had ordered not to arrest Prabir Purkayastha. However, the court had said that Purkayastha will have to cooperate in the investigation as per the instructions of the authorities. After the petition of Delhi Police, the court had sought reply from Purkayastha in this matter.

Editors Guild of India expressed concern.

Meanwhile, press organizations have expressed concern over the action against NewsClick. The Editors Guild of India said in a statement, "EGI is deeply concerned about the raids on the homes of senior journalists on the morning of October 3 and the subsequent detention of many of them. We urge the state to follow due process." Strict criminal laws should not be used as a weapon to intimidate the press."


Press Club of India issued a statement with the hashtag #DefendMediaFreedom. He said, "The Press Club of India is deeply concerned by the multiple raids conducted at the homes of journalists and writers associated with NewsClick. We are monitoring the developments and will issue a detailed statement."






Maharashtra : 31 patients died in Nanded hospital in 48 hours, NCP MP got the toilet cleaned by the dean


Due to shortage of medicines in Nanded hospital, 31 patients have died in 48 hours. The condition of 71 patients is said to be critical. Cleanliness is also being cited as a reason for deaths. NCP MP Hemant Patil visited the hospital located in Vishnupuri and inspected various departments directly. Meanwhile, toilets were found closed in many wards.


Mumbai : 31 patients have died within 48 hours in a government hospital in Nanded, Maharashtra. On Monday, 24 patients, including 12 newborns, died in this hospital. The opposition is attacking the ruling alliance BJP-Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) and NCP (Ajit Pawar) faction regarding the deaths of such a large number of patients. Meanwhile, NCP leader and MP Jayant Patil arrived to visit the hospital. He took stock of the facilities in the hospital. During this time he got angry after seeing the dirty toilet. Angry MP Hemant Patil called hospital dean Shyamrao Wakode and got the toilet cleaned. Before Nanded, 18 patients had died in a single day in a hospital in Thane.

Many leaders raised questions.Apart from NCP state president Jayant Patil, Congress leaders Ashok Chavan, Jitendra Awad, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sushma Andhare, Aditya Thackeray also raised questions regarding the health system. Apart from this, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has also raised questions. 

The video of Dean cleaning the toilet is being shared. In the video, NCP MP Jayant Patil can be seen standing and holding the water pipe. Keep a container, a bottle and a toilet brush on the windowsill. After this, Patil can be seen spraying water from the pipe in the footage. While Dean is seen cleaning the commode with a Wacode brush and the floor with a wiper.


Dean rejects allegations of negligence in treatmentEarlier, Dean Wakode of the hospital had rejected allegations of negligence in treatment for the deaths. He had said that there is no shortage of medicines or doctors. The patients were given proper care, but they did not respond to the treatment.

Kharge demanded investigation and punishment of the culprits.Meanwhile, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has taken on the Maharashtra state government over this matter. He posted on social media platform It is being said that these patients died due to lack of medicines and treatment. A similar incident took place in a government hospital in Thane in August 2023, in which 18 patients lost their lives. The Congress chief has demanded a detailed investigation into the deaths and strict punishment to the culprits.


Meanwhile, Director of Medical Education and Research, Dr. Dilip Mhaisekar said that a committee has been formed to investigate the deaths. While Maharashtra Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif will visit the hospital on Tuesday.
