He went on to say: “Thanks to this development, Russia can return to the list of leading countries in the world in the field of developing supercomputers. At the opening ceremony on September 1, the goals of the new system will be determined, but they will mainly relate to artificial intelligence.  It is noteworthy that in 2008, the “Chebyshov” supercomputer with a speed of 60 teraflops/second was launched at Moscow State University, which was created with the participation of the SKIF-GRID program of the Russian-Belarusian Federation. In 2009, the Lomonosov supercomputer was launched here, which after several stages of modernization reached a peak performance of 1.7 petaflops.  The Lomonosov 2 supercomputer was launched at the university in 2012, and its highest performance is estimated at 5.5 petaflops. Today, it is used by more than 3,000 users from 20 departments at Moscow State University, in addition to representatives of more than 50 institutes affiliated with the Russian Academy of Sciences and more than 40 Russian universities.
