Coach Filda was among those who applauded Rubiales when he announced his refusal to resign from the presidency of the federation after he was widely criticized for kissing player Jennifer Hermoso on the lips without her consent, during the team's celebrations of winning the Women's World Cup in Sydney, Australia, last August. After the incident, Spanish coach Filda showed his support for the president of the federation, Rubiales, but later retracted it and issued a statement saying that the latter's behavior was "inappropriate", according to the "Associated Press". Subsequently, the Disciplinary Committee of the International Federation of Football Associations suspended Rubiales for 90 days, as he faces a lawsuit filed against him by the Spanish government because of the behavior that sparked a storm of criticism and led to widespread calls for his resignation.
