The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced that it will decide the venue for the 2025 and 2027 African Cups, following a meeting of its executive committee in Cairo on September 27.
CAF President, South African Patrice Motsepe, said following a session of the Executive Committee yesterday, Thursday, “We will meet again in Cairo on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, to discuss and make decisions regarding the two countries that will be granted the opportunity to host the 2025 and 2027 African Cup of Nations.”
He added, "The Confederation of African Football will also host, in the coming weeks, the first meeting of the African Clubs Association (ACA), which represents the most successful and largest football clubs in Africa."
Morocco and Algeria are competing to host the 2025 edition, the organization of which was withdrawn from Guinea in October 2022, due to its delay in completing the host facilities for the tournament, which includes 24 teams.
In addition to the two Maghreb countries, Nigeria and Benin ran in a joint file.
As for the 2027 edition, Algeria also ran, as it will compete if it does not succeed in hosting the 2025 edition, with files for Senegal and Botswana and another joint for “East Africa” between Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
