ISTANBUL : The Secretary-General of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, Ali Al-Qara Daghi, called, on Saturday, Morocco and Algeria for dialogue, warning of discord between the two Arab countries.

This came in a tweet and video message he addressed to the Moroccan and Algerian peoples, and his media office published it through his Twitter account.

Al-Qara Daghi said: “We warn against sedition and its fire There is no room for any escalation, and we are all with dialogue and leaving the quarrel and its people behind.”

He added, “It pains us to often hear about the existence of a kind of strife between Algeria and Morocco through which it is intended to eliminate what remains of the strength of the Islamic and Arab nation.”

And he stressed that “it is not permissible in any way to listen to these paid voices and trumpets, which are mainly accused of serving the interests of the enemies of Islam and Muslims.”

In a previous tweet, Friday, Al-Qara Daghi said: “I am following with great pain the positions of inflaming and spreading tension that some of those who want to deepen the dispute between the two peoples take.”

And he stressed that the two countries “have one spirit, a common fabric, one hope and one pain, and those of color will not appreciate the market of common destinies and dignity between the two peoples towards strife.”

And he added, “There is no room for any escalation, and we are all with dialogue and leaving the quarrel and its people behind.”

Al-Qaradaghi's statements come as part of a broad and unprecedented campaign launched by some personalities on the Twitter platform, calling for bridging the rift between Algeria and Morocco recently.

Algeria has severed its relations with Morocco since August 2021, due to what it said were “hostile acts” by Rabat against it, which the latter denied.
