A surprising salary bill for English clubs

The English newspaper The Times published a list of the total spending of the six major English clubs on the salaries of their players for the 2021-22 season, and Manchester City was not the leader, as everyone was used to criticizing what they spend.

The newspaper showed in its report that Manchester United paid 384 million pounds in salaries and was the most paid team.

While Liverpool jumped to second place with salaries amounting to 366 million pounds, driven by spending more than 158 million pounds more than they spent on salaries in the past six years, an increase of 75% from 2017.

Liverpool signed new, improved contracts, starting last season, with a number of its players, Andy Robertson, Virgil Van Dyck, Jordan Henderson and Trent Arnold.

It is expected that the salary bill for Liverpool players will increase after renewing the Egyptian star Mohamed Salah’s contract last summer with the “Reds”, with a salary of 350,000 pounds per week.

Manchester City, last season's champion, came third in the salary list with spending of 354 million pounds, while Chelsea paid salaries of 333 million.

Tottenham surpassed its rivals in north London, Arsenal, in the salary scale, and came fifth, by paying 209 million pounds in salaries to its players, an increase of 3 million pounds from Arsenal, who currently lead the Premier League standings.

Officially, the referees' department settles the controversy over Ronaldo's "crisis"

The arbitration department of the Saudi Football Association settled the controversy over arbitration cases during the Al-Nasr and Al-Taawun club match, which brought them together, in the 17th round of the “Roshen” professional league.

And the arbitration department revealed, in an official statement, the validity of the goal of Al-Nasr club defender, Abdullah Mado, against Al-Taawon goal (2-1), on February 17, when the result indicated a positive tie with a goal for the same.

The department explained, in its presentation of some controversial cases for the seventeenth and eighteenth rounds: "The goal is correct, and there was no influence from the player Ronaldo, who was standing in an offside position."

And she added: “The situation was complicated. In the first shot, Ronaldo, who contributed to making the goal, was not offside, and in the second situation he was in an offside position, but he did not participate in the attack, so the video assistant referee (VAR) asked the match referee to watch the situation and make sure of himself and make the right decision.”

Regarding the second controversial case, in which Al-Alamy demanded a penalty kick, the arbitration department said: “There is no penalty kick for victory, in the 49th minute in front of Al-Taawoun. The player put his hand on the ground, to support the body, and there was no abnormal movement, and the referee made the right decision, For his good attitude towards the game."

It is noteworthy that the board of directors of the Al-Taawon club accused the referees of “complimenting” the victory, in the match that brought the two teams together, due to the presence of Ronaldo.

Al-Nasr club leads the Saudi “Roshan” league ranking table, with 43 points, two points ahead of its runner-up, Ittihad Jeddah, followed by Al-Shabab in third place with 40 points.

As for Al-Hilal Club, the defending champion in the last three editions, it ranks fourth in the league standings table, with 32 points, with 3 postponed matches.
