The infant, Aya, opened her eyes to the world under the rubble of her family's house, so that she was destined to spend her life without a father or mother after they died with 3 of her brothers as a result of the earthquake.
Aya was born under the rubble in the town of Jenderes, northern Syria, following the earthquake that occurred on Monday, and civil defense crews took her out after 5 hours of rescue operations after cutting the umbilical cord.
According to the Civil Defense, Aya's father, mother and three brothers were killed in the earthquake, leaving her alone after all her family members left.
Aya, who was injured in separate parts of her body, was transferred to Jihan Hospital in Afrin for treatment, while the hospital staff reported that her health condition is good.
In an indefinite toll, the number of earthquake victims throughout Syria (regime and opposition-held areas) reached 3,162 dead and more than 5,000 wounded, according to figures from the Ministry of Health of the regime and the Syrian Civil Defense (the White Helmets).
At dawn on Monday, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake hit southern Turkey and northern Syria, followed hours later by another with a magnitude of 7.6 and dozens of aftershocks, leaving huge losses of lives and property in both countries.
