Designed by Italian studio Lazzarini Design, the Blektrum Yacht is the latest in a number of radical superyacht designs. The 74-meter-long yacht is powered by a hydrofoil system, can lift itself above the surface of the water, and appears to "fly" at high speeds.
Italian studio Lazzarini Design has unveiled an inspiring and innovative luxury yacht design within its latest series of inventions.
Dubbed the Plectrum, the yacht measures 74 meters in length and is powered by a hydrofoil system.
Plectrum can lift itself above the surface of the water, appearing to "fly" at high speeds.
The Italian studio team said the design of the yacht was largely inspired by the single-hull sailboats that participated in the international America's Cup sailing yacht competition.
But instead of being propelled by the wind like a sailing yacht, this bright orange megayacht is powered by three hydrogen engines, each with a maximum power of 5,000 horsepower.
Although the design is only a concept, the designers said it could be built in two years at an estimated cost of $86m (€80m) if a buyer can be found.
"We would like to remind you that in 1964 the shipbuilding industry was actually able to build similar ships," the designers said in a statement.
Of course, the metal fin system can be adjusted based on 'navigational needs', as they can be extended from 15m wide when anchored to the yacht's mooring berth to 20m from the transom when open, while the yacht is sailing at high speed.
Made from a combination of dry carbon fiber composite materials, the lightweight yacht is designed to be the fastest of its kind and will have the ability to achieve a top speed of 75 knots.
As for amenities on board the yacht, it will be equipped with six cabins for guests, a suite for the owner of the ship, a helipad, in addition to a beach club, and a swimming pool over its four levels.
The Plectrum is the latest in a number of radical superyacht designs from Lazzarini.
Fascinating!
